Why you should start a podcast in 2019

– I listen to four
hours of podcasts a day. Four hours for a brand to get
their message across to me, four hours to build a
relationship with the host, four hours to listen to
what the company does, and to learn from. Legacy content marketing
like e-books, blogs, guides, they’re all really fantastic ways of doing legacy content marketing. But they’re exactly that, they’re legacy, they’re old-fashioned formats, and it takes a lot of time
and a lot of investment to get them to work. In 2019, there’s complete
content saturation. And you need to find a medium that will set you apart
from everyone else. A well-produced podcast
will do exactly that. All those other legacy
pieces of content marketing are all fighting to get
your audience’s attention for a couple of minutes. A couple of minutes here,
a couple of minutes there, click bait titles, what can
we do to get their attention? The thing is with podcasting
is it’s a passive medium. You can do it while you’re
doing something else. You can do it while you’re
commuting in the morning, while you’re doing the cooking, while you’re going to sleep. That is why I listen to
so, so many podcasts. And the thing is with videos and blogs which are a few
minutes of time each day, the average length of
podcast is 43 minutes. 43 minutes for you to build that trust and to build a relationship with your prospects and your buyer. However with podcasting, much
like with video marketing, it is a long-term investment. You need to be completely committed to producing your podcast regularly. You need to set a cadence, if you’re gonna do it once a week, once a month, maybe even every day. You want to make sure
you’re doing it consistently and for the long-term. The majority of podcasts, they won’t even get to five episodes. But you need to be producing
hundreds of episodes to make sure they work. Because you wanna get
people tuning in every week or every time you release an episode and wanting to listen to the next one this is very much a content format where you want to have the most engaging, interesting content. Otherwise people just aren’t gonna listen. But one thing you might be thinking is how do you actually
get people to your podcast because it’s a completely owned medium, meaning that it’s not hosted and distributed on one specific platform, it’s across all of them. You need to use your existing
channels to help grow it. A really good podcast is like Joe Rogan, The Matti & Pete Show, Matt D’Avella. They all use their existing
audience to grow their podcast and they also use guests and their profile to grow it as well. You can also look at how
you can use paid advertising to get people to your
podcast in the first place. But once you have their attention, and you’ve got them
listening to an episode, and they really like it, you’ve built that relationship, it’ll be hard for them to let go. A lot of podcasts that I listen to and other people listen to, they listen to it every week, because they like the host,
they like the content, it’s informative, it’s engaging, it’s fun. So no other medium can do
this as well as podcasting can but you do have to put the
investment in long-term. Now the final thing I’ll
mention about podcasting is it’s such a low barrier to entry, all you need is some good podcast gear, a great idea, and start cranking them out. And once you start making them, you’ll start getting
people listening to them, and you’ve gotta be consistent. And then you’ll have a fantastic podcast that can engage your audience, that can engage your
prospects and customers, and it’ll be really, really
fun to do while you do it. There’s no surprise, podcasts has blown up
in the last few years, there’s no better time than
now to start your podcast, while it’s in the ascendancy, while people are interested
in listening to them. You might think that it’s saturated, that’s absolutely not the case. There’s 700,000 podcasts
currently available and some of those haven’t
even reached five episodes, like I mentioned earlier. Whereas you look at YouTube where they have hundreds
of millions of channels and you wouldn’t hesitate
to start a YouTube channel because you know it’s proven,
and you know it works. There’s so much opportunity for podcasting especially for your brand in your niche. If you’re thinking of starting a podcast, but haven’t yet done it, make sure you leave in the
comments why you haven’t, what you’re thinking about, what your ideas are,
and what’s stopping you. If you’ve already started
a podcast, fantastic! Make sure you leave that in the comments, I’ll be sure to give it a listen. Thanks for watching, goodbye.
