Starting a Podcast? Figure out your Message before you worry about your Microphone


(chiming notes) – There’s a couple of hashtags
that I will often use now because of the fact that this
is what I really speak into. And that one of them is
message before microphone. And that is… – [Man] Oh wow! – You need to be clear about your message. How that’s gonna cut
through, your unique story, your unique experience you wanna create. – [Male] Mmhmm. – Before you even worry about the make or model of the microphone
because you cannot edit and mix you know, substandard content that is very unfocused and not niched. You can’t edit and mix that
into compelling content. – Let me just pick up on
what you just said there. I would’ve never though of this. – [Woman] Yes. – Message before microphone. So, before even talking about tech. – [Woman] Yes. – Before even worrying
about anything gadgetry, you wanna know exactly
what the podcast is about. – [Woman] Yeah. – And what it’s for. – [Woman] Yes. – Who you’re speaking to. – [Woman] Exactly. – How many people do you
know that are not doing that? How many people do you have to convince that that’s the point? – A lot. So many that, I continue
to speak into that. And I created a hashtag. – Yeah, yeah. Message over microphone. – That’s right. So message before microphone and there’s another one too. Message before tactic. – Ah yes. – [Woman] Often, we will hear people say, alright, so, should a podcast
be something that I am doing? When should I post? How often should I post? All of these different things
to cut through the noise. Now, we know that people
are busy, absolutely. But, if you create a
message that is so valuable that people stop and listen, and think, oh, this is fabulous. You become known as that
valuable thought leader. That influencer who anytime
that you share content it’s going to have people
sit back and think, wow. I’ve listened or I’ve watched
and I’m better off for it You don’t worry about what time you post, how often you post. People are going to make
you a priority in their day because of the value you
consistently deliver. So, message always has
to be before microphone and before tactic. (chiming notes)
