Sesame Street: Confidence (Word on the Street Podcast)

MURRAY: Hi. I’m Murray from “Sesame Street.” And I’m looking for
the word on the street. What’s the word on the street? BOY 1: “Confidence.” MURRAY: What is confidence? BOY 2: You believe in yourself. GIRL 1: And you just
know you can do it. MURRAY: And how do you think
you can get confidence? MAN: Confidence
comes from within. MURRAY: Do you ever
feel confident? GIRL 2: Doing math? MURRAY: When do
you feel confident? GIRL 3: When I play soccer. MURRAY: “Confidence.” That’s the word on the street. How you doing? EVAN: Hi, guys. I’m Evan. ELMO: Oh, and Elmo’s Elmo. STINKY: And I am Stinky. EVAN: We are here to tell you
all about an amazing word. ELMO: Yeah. A fantastic word. EVAN: Go on, Stinky. Tell them what the word is. STINKY: Oh, I can’t. EVAN: Yes, you can. STINKY: No. No. I really don’t think so. EVAN: OK. I’ll tell them what the word is. Today’s word is “confidence.” ELMO: Yeah. “Confidence.” EVAN: Now, Stinky, you can
tell them “confidence” means. STINKY: Oh no. I couldn’t possibly. ELMO: Oh boy. Mr. Evan, Elmo
thinks that Stinky doesn’t have much confidence. STINKY: I don’t. At least, I don’t think I do. What’s confidence again? EVAN: Confidence is
believing in yourself. STINKY: Really? EVAN: Sure. Confidence means you know
you can do something. STINKY: Well, do you have
confidence, Mr. Evan Lysacek? EVAN: Oh yeah. I totally have
confidence in myself. I have confidence
when I’m skating. I have confidence
when I’m speaking. I have confidence when
I’m doing a lot of things. ELMO: Yeah. And Elmo believes
in himself too. STINKY: Oh. So you have confidence
too, little Elmo? ELMO: That’s right. STINKY: Oh. Wow. EVAN: But you know
what else I believe in? STINKY: What’s that? EVAN: You. I believe that
you’re a plant who can tell everyone
what confidence is. STINKY: You know. You’re very good at
this, because I’m starting to believe
in myself too. ELMO: Ah. Stinky is getting confidence. EVAN: Well, what
are you waiting for? Stand tall and proud and tell
everyone what confidence is. STINKY: All right. [CLEARS THROAT] The
word “confidence” means to believe in yourself. ELMO: Oh yay! Stinky did it. EVAN: Nice job. STINKY: I did it. I believed in
myself, and I did it. EVAN: That’s– ALL: “confidence.” SINGER: Sometimes it seems that
an easy thing is so hard to do. I asked for a helping hand. I’ll give it a shot. And see it through. Oh. Climbing, walking, sliding
down, or doing the hula hoop. BACK-UP SINGERS:
Hula, hula hoop. SINGER: Each new thing
required a little time and a lot of patience too. So I try. I just know I’m going to do it. I try. BACK-UP SINGERS: Try again. Try again. SINGER: Yeah. So I try. BACK-UP SINGERS: Try again. Try again. SINGER: I take a deep breath. I concentrate. Hey, my confidence grew. Cause I try. BACK-UP SINGERS: Nothing to it. SINGER: Yeah. Cause I try. BACK-UP SINGERS: Try again. Try again. SINGER: I had a SINGER: I had a helping
hand to see me through it. And now, there’s nothing to it. Cause I try. SINGER: Try again. Try again. Nothing to it. WILL.I.AM: If what I
am is what’s in me, then I’ll stay strong
that’s who I’ll be. And I will always be the
best me that I can be. There’s only one me. I am it. Have a dream I’ll follow it. It’s up to me to try. Oh. I’m gonna keep my head up high. ALL: High. WILL.I.AM: Keep
on reaching high. ELMO: High. WILL.I.AM: Never going to quit. I’ll keep getting stronger. And nothing’s going
to bring me down. ALL: No. WILL.I.AM: Never going to stop. Gotta go. ALL: Go. WILL.I.AM: Because I know. I’ll keep getting stronger. And what I am is– ERNIE: Thoughtful. WILL.I.AM: And what I am is– BERT: Musical. WILL.I.AM: And what I am is– COUNT: Smart. WILL.I.AM: And what I am is– ZOE: Brave. WILL.I.AM: And what I am is– COOKIE MONSTER: Hopeful. WILL.I.AM: And what I am is– ALL: Special. WILL.I.AM: There’s
nothing I can’t achieve, because in myself I believe. And oh. Gonna hold my head up high. ELMO: High WILL.I.AM: Keep
on reaching high. ALL: High. WILL.I.AM: I’m
never going to stop. I’ll keep getting stronger. Nothing’s going
to bring me down. Never give it up. Got to go. Yeah. I’ll keep getting stronger. MURRAY: What does the
word “confidence” mean? POSTAL WORKER: Feeling
good about yourself. GIRL 4: To not doubt yourself. LADY 1: To have an “I
can do it” attitude. MAN 2: It’s when you
really believe in yourself, and other people can tell. BOY 3: Confidence is like,
oh, I am so going to do this, and nothing is in my way. MURRAY: How do you
show confidence? LADY 2: I can look
right at the person that I’m talking
to or dealing with. MURRAY: Yeah. You look them right in the eyes. I do this. I stand up tall and
I take a deep breath. I can do this. Do you ever show confidence? BOY 4: Basically,
anytime I play sports or do something challenging. MURRAY: “Confidence.” That’s the word on the street. I believe in myself
that I’m a good dancer. Because I am. I know how to boogie.
