Hello, and welcome to the guide on accessing e-books through the Sprague Library Catalog! eBooks are a great way to access the library’s collection even while off-campus. We’ll be going over some of the different methods we can use to access eBooks from our many providers. The library catalog, which you can use to find our eBooks, is available at montclair.on.worldcat.org/discovery and it can also be accessed through the “Find Books and Media” tab on the Library Homepage. You’re going to want to start your search with a few keywords. Here I’m typing in “nursing”… And here I get my list of results. Now on the left here I have different I have different filters to help me refine my results. I can select only eBooks… And only works published recently in the past 5 years. And my results change accordingly. Now if I want to go back a step and look at all of our eBooks on nursing, here I can remove one of the parameters. But let’s browse through our results. Remember that that some results might be online only, without a cover in the catalog. That doesn’t mean it won’t be a useful book! Just like physical books, the “View Description” option shows you the table of contents, And a summary of the book. You can also cite the book, or send yourself the link to the record of it in the catalog so that you can come back and look at it later. Here under ‘Check Availability’, you can see the ‘View eBook’ link. Click it to open up the eBook, and log in to access it. This eBook is in the R2 Digital Library. The full text is all laid out right here. You can click any chapter you want to read, and the text is right here on the website. Other eBook providers might require different steps for accessing the full text. ProQuest eBook Central will ask you to download the free Adobe software so that you can have the eBook downloaded to your computer and read it even without an internet connection. EbscoHost eBooks also require the Adobe software. You’ll also need to sign up for an EbscoHost account with your Montclair State e-mail, which will help you keep track of your eBook checkouts. After the license for your eBook expires, you won’t be able to open the file in Adobe Reader anymore, but you can always take out the eBook again! If you have any questions, please use our Ask a Librarian service, available on the library homepage.
