Destiny 2 Shadowkeep The return of Taniks! | Myelin Games

Taniks has no house, he kneels before no banner,
owes allegiance to no Kell. He is a murderer. And very good at what he does. Welcome back Guardians. Today, I want to cover Taniks the Scarred. As many of you have likely seen, Taniks is
returning with Shadowkeep and can be seen in one of the Bungie trailers. Most suspect he is returning as one of the
Nightmares, or Phantasms, of Shadowkeep, however, I am also wondering whether Taniks has just
been resurrected himself again? Remember that Taniks has been killed multiple
times in Destiny’s history. So with that being said, lets recap everything
we know about Taniks. And if you would like me to recap any other
Phantasms coming in Shadowkeep, please let me know. As usual the artwork at the beginning of this
video was provided by Gammatrap. All patreon donations go towards paying Gammatrap

this latest Destiny 2 lore episode. [INTRO]
Let’s begin. Now we don’t know much about the early history
of Taniks, however I have theorized about Taniks and the House of Scar, so let me cover
that quickly. Taniks is unique to the Fallen in a number
of ways. Firstly, he does not show allegiance to any
Fallen House and he acts as a mercenary, he works for any Fallen house who pays him enough. The “Raise” lore entry from the lore book,
The man they Call Cayde, reads For the uninitiated, Taniks is a Fallen mercenary
with no House but the House that pays him. Most Fallen won’t deal with him. But when a Captain, or an Archon, or a Kell
needs something done and their crews ain’t cutting it—or, when they want a job done
real hush-hush—they call Taniks. So that is one of the first unique aspects
of Taniks, is that he does not belong to any Fallen house, the second unique aspect about
Taniks is that he has four mechanical arms. Taniks and Variks are the only two Fallen
we know of who have mechanical arms. This has cultural significance, because the
Fallen amputate the lower arms of Fallen to demote them to Dregs. Dregs only have two arms, with their lower
two arms amputated. Dregs who perform well on the battlefield
may be given the opportunity to regrow their lower arms. So when a Fallen, like Taniks and Variks replace
their arms with mechanical arms, they are essentially rejecting Fallen culture and hierarchy. So how does this all relate to House of Scar,
and Tanik’s history. Well, there is one item description that refers
to a Fallen being demoted and then building himself new mechanical arms and killing his
former Kell. The weapon “Does not bow” reads,
A Kell cut off his arms. He built himself new ones. Then he killed the Kell with them. Now this item does not specifically reference
Taniks, however, considering Taniks’s ability to meld with machinery, it is definitely possible
that this item is referring to Taniks, and Taniks in-fact killed a Kell with his newly
built mechanical arms. You could also speculate that the Kell he
killed may have been link to House of Scar, and this was one of the reasons why House
of Scar seemingly disappeared. The other reason why Taniks is linked with
the House of Scar, is his name, Taniks, The Scarred. And finally, Taniks’s cloak has a very specific
pattern on it, and this pattern can be seen in concept art for Destiny. Within this concept art, the cloak pattern
appears to be a Fallen house banner pattern, so we assume that Taniks belong to a Fallen
house at some stage, but we have never fought that house in-game. So, really, not a huge amount of evidence
surrounding Taniks and the House of Scar, but if you are new to Destiny, that is where
the theory originates from. Before moving onto what Taniks did during
his multiple lives, lets first cover the machinery aspect of Taniks. It seems that Taniks’s ability to splice
himself with machinery has lead to an undying life. Have a listen to the Taniks The Scarred grimoire
card, it reads, “It is believed by the Fallen that he is
undying, a living huntsman whose physical self is joined with a mix of technologies,
each pilfered from legendary treasure troves.” And have a listen to the The Cloak of Taniks
it reads, “He of the endless troves of arms, and legs,
and hearts, and lungs, and…” And have a listen to the The Shadow Thief
grimoire card, it reads, “Most Fallen worship machines. It seems that Taniks, with his ritualistic
surgeries and implants, wishes to be one.” I definitely get the impression that Taniks
can rebuild himself, that Taniks is more machine than Fallen, and this may be one of the reasons
to why he was able to return from the dead, multiple times. So lets talk about the events that lead to
Taniks’s death. Taniks’s was actually hired by one of the
Fallen houses to take out Cayde, Shiro and Andal amongst other Guardians. The Raise lore tab from The man they Call
Cayde, reads Back in the day, me, Shiro, Andal, and a few
others got on radars we’d rather stay off. The Fallen Houses put out bounties. Lotta Glimmer on our heads. Lotta Ether. Taniks took the gig. Only we didn’t know. There’d been stories of a renegade Fallen
dropping bodies, but nothing ever concrete, so we just brushed them off as more of the
same. Nothing we couldn’t handle, even on an off
day. Cayde’s arrogance was misplaced, and Taniks
would end up killing Nian Ruo, and he also took out the ghost of Lush. The same lore entry reads,
First impression… He was a big boy. Bad attitude. Second… He was standin’ over the body of Nian Ruo. Didn’t know her well, but we’d done a few
runs. That day was supposed to be an in-and-out’er. But then… Taniks. Nian never got back up, and Shiro’s boy Lush
lost his Ghost—full-on RTL, returned to Light. Gone and done. Now, Cayde, Andal and Shiro sought revenge
upon Taniks. However, this time, in typical Hunter fashion
they placed a bet upon who could kill Taniks first. Whoever killed Taniks, did not have to be
the new Hunter Vanguard, this was the new Vanguard dare. The Turn from The man they Call Cayde reads,
See, there was that opening on the Vanguard, Hunter slot. We both wanted Taniks. Only one would get the killing blow, and the
glory. The loser had to hang ’em up… and lock themselves
away in a Tower. Leave the lonely roads to real-dealers. So, with the Dare issued, Cayde and Andal
set out on killing Taniks. Cayde would land the final blow, which mean
that Andal would have to be the new Hunter Vanguard, the Winner take all lore entry reads,
What followed was a party. Osiris even showed up. He and the Speaker had sent Saint-14 after
Taniks as well, and maybe Sainty’s one hell of a Titan—but we’re Hunters. No way were we losing the kill. Looking back, I wish maybe we had. Andal kept his word—joined the Vanguard. I tried talking him out of it. We’d made the Dare in a compromised state… Shiro and I’d just been roughed up, Nian was
gone, Lush was broken—emotions were high, liquid was flowing. Andal wasn’t buying it. Neither was I. Not really. The Dare’s the Dare. To back out would’ve been a mark—would’ve
called Andal into question to every Hunter out there. Even to me. I never would’ve admitted it to him. But he’d know. At this point, Taniks makes his first resurrection,
and I am not aware of anything that explains how he did this, but I can only assume it
has something to do with this machine body. Upon Taniks’s return he murders the newly
appointed Hunter Vanguard, Andal Brask. The Taniks the Scarred grimoire card reads,
Taniks, the Scarred, a mercenary known for the theft of Aksor from the Prison of Elders
and the murder of Hunter Vanguard Andal Brask, sells his services to any Fallen House willing
to pay the right price. Now I believe after Andal’s death, Cayde
would once again seek revenge on Taniks, killing him a second time. The Winner Take All lore entry confirms that
Cayde killed Taniks twice, it reads. The real problem? The freak’s STILL a pain. He ain’t no Guardian, but the dude’s been
dead and not more times than I can track. “Died” twice by my hand alone. Second time I even looked to deliver some
insurance, but he was hauled off by his goons before I could add more lead to the collection
I’d deposited in his chest… and neck… and gut… and head. As you may have noticed, this paragraph also
may hint at how Taniks is constantly resurrected. Taniks’s followers carried him off, so I
wonder, if they are able to repair Taniks post death. Of course, we know that Taniks was revived
again, because we face Taniks in the Shadow Thief strike that was released with House
of Wolves. Taniks was trying to steal Hive technology
from the moon, we of course, but an end to that, making this Taniks’s third death. The Shadow Thief grimoire card, reads,
The Wolves have sent a mercenary to Luna. Taniks, the Scarred. He would steal from the Hive all they know. Would align the Fallen with the shadows. You will stop him… but he will rejoice in
your interference. Embraces conflict does Taniks. Revels in the trophies he collects from all
he defeats. End his games.” – Variks, the Loyal
The in-game dialogue is actually really interesting during the Shadow Thief strike, Variks says
this, Variks: Taniks has been sent to plunder the
Hive. Your job just as simple. Avenge the dead. Stop him from stealing the Dark. Of course, as you likely know, this was not
the last we saw of Taniks, he would later be resurrected by SIVA following the events
of Rise of Iron. The Shadow Thief: Revisited grimoire card
reads, “Variks has brought unsettling news. The Devil Splicers have used SIVA to resurrect
an old foe: Taniks the Scarred has become Taniks Perfected.” “Taniks’s crew has joined the Splicers. They’re using SIVA to reanimate his body and
overtake his territory. Of course, Guardians are tasked with destroying
Taniks perfected and we promptly do. The interesting thing about Taniks returning
with SIVA, is the question of who was controlling Taniks and/or SIVA, I have made multiple videos
in the past about SIVA becoming sentient and controlling itself, and Ikora Rey hints at
this in the in-game dialogue after you defeat Taniks perfected, she says,
“You prevented SIVA from restarting Tanik’s mercenary operation. The nanites continue to evolve their function.” – Ikora
So I guess the question is, does Taniks still have any SIVA nanites in him, can he be resurrected
again using his previous methods, assuming his followers capture his body again, or could
Taniks be resurrected again with SIVA, if so, would he have any control? Is the Taniks we see in the Shadowkeep trailer
a Phantasm, a nightmare, or is this Taniks up to his old tricks again? Either way, I am sure we will make Cayde-6
proud and send Taniks back to wherever he came from. And with that, that concludes this latest
Destiny 2 lore episode. If you woud like to support the channel and
cannot think of a comment, you can leave the words, “No house” to represent those famous
Variks lines about Taniks having no house. As usual, it has been a pleasure, this is
myelin games. Peace.

  1. If Taniks is a strike in Shadowkeep I would love there to be something similar to the Veteran and newbie accounts in destiny 2 base campaign where whoever narrates the strike to say "Taniks is angry at you for killing him..twices no three times now? Why not we make this his final death. For Cayde" and newbies get "Taniks was killed by a Cayde 6 twice. He won't just stay dead.make this death his last"

  2. I want to see us end up in a confrontation with nightmare Taniks in the old ship, when suddenly the real Taniks shows up to help us get rid of what he sees as an imposter tarnishing his reputation.

  3. i think Taniks knows where the black stone cript is and he used it to rebuild himself and his crew use his spear parts to fix him like the fallen recovering the sevtoirs we break to fix them , ( like his crew was formed afterwards and he dose not tell them about it so they don't destroy the place looting everything like the fallen do )

  4. If I'm going to put him in the ground again I'll do it in a way that would definitely make Cayde proud.

I will end Taniks with Cayde's Ace of Spades

  5. My theory on taniks at the time was there was a house scarred and he destroyed it with us rebellious nature. He must have done something to have disgraced his kell so he got his arms cut off. In his lonesome, he rebuilt his severed arms then he decided to kill his lead. With his leader gone, the lesser fallen (dreg, vandals, etc) scattered across the system, forgotten their lives in the scarred house, and burned the house down to the ground. I think he'd made some self restoring ether or learned something from the hive to keep going. Future note: if he gained a ability to control Siva then he probably can never die

  6. The fact that I just pieced together that taniks is destiny's version of scud the disposable assassin just dawned on me. mind blown

  7. I'd love for phantasms — or nightmares, or whatever they're called — to have something distinctive, a way to tell they're not "real". & then during /after the Taniks Strike we find out that he was the real deal again

  8. In the first Moon mission on D1 when you are trying to turn on the accelerator there is a scannable with the same pattern as Tanik's cloak and ghost says it is House Exile

  9. Just wait for us to encounter the phantom taniks then og taniks comes out of nowhere and slays it then looks at us then the fight begins.

  10. I REALLY Hope that there will be a variant of the Shadow Thief strike, or rather, a variant on the black spindle quest. Some kind of story mission that leads us close enough to the crashed Ketch and we can travel through there and recollect a new version of black spindle

  11. Would be awesome if they played it off throughout a strike making you think it was a nightmare, only to get to the boss room and see the real thing.

  12. Gonna save 13 minutes of your lives and say that he is in fact a phantom just like all the other returning villains.
    You're welcome

  13. As long as we get his cloak again when we take him out, he can be a phantasm or resurrected. All the same to hunters

  14. Taniks the terminator, what if we aren’t killing Taniks but Avatars of him, what if he isn’t in those bodies, maybe his head sits somewhere safe so he can come back over and over? Just a thought

  15. Let Mithras end him once and for all to prove his loyalty yet again and then the traveler gives him a ghost of his own?! Idk that’s dumb but still. Lol

  16. Have a burning question. If by chance Crota has been resurrected, wouldn’t there be a possibility that Oryx has been too since both were killed in their throne world?

  17. They should introduce the hunter hood you can get from him again, then give him an ornament where you can put the hood on

  18. Imagine getting your arms chopped off, get killed twice by the same guy, the. Again by his student, getting your soul stolen by a Death God, getting turned into a Nano machine Cyborg by a psycho cult, and then, finally when you get to rest in Death, you get res’d by by the force that wants to kill you to fight people that you know will annihilate you, because they killed you 5 times already.

  19. III have been tracking hiiim since woolves broke their chaiiins yes? Now Taniks works for wolf pack, but not for looong 😉

  20. I have a theory but since I'm late this might get buried. Anyways, here it goes, we know that Crota killed Guardians by draining their light. We also know that death isn't the be all end all in the destiny universe (Toland). I believe that when Crota killed the Gaurdians and drained the light he used a ritual that allowed the darkness to enter the guardians bodies/souls. So what we're seeing is the Darkness either watching us through the remnants of dead guardians or they are leaving a message/warning/threat to those that oppose them. Just my thought process 🙂

  21. NO HOUSE!

I say bring him on, as a Hunter I'll gladly kill him as many times as it's necessary to Avenge Andel and now for Cayde as well. I hope the cloak comes back too cuz I loved that thing in d1

  22. Now that you mention the lore entry of Cayde-6 seeing Taniks' goons carry him off, that explains why there are enemy spawns that trigger when you defeat him in the strike

They're there to carry his body off. Woah.

    Nice synergy, Bungie!

  23. can you do skolas,? also.found out that we have to do something pertaining to..zydron…i checked with d1 wiki and that is also the name of the vex from a venus mission where you have to take a vex eye….could they be the same ?
