  1. My god, he sucks when he sings sometimes! Joan Osborne's cover is so much dramatic and soothing. Let's admit that Dylan is just a good composer, but certainly not a singer. And he owes Joan Baez all the advertising.

  2. I always say that Bob Weir rode upon Jerry Garcia's coat tails, but can you imagine Jerry in a tux with tails? The only other long black coat people I know are the Columbine shooters and wanna-be's. The 9's are my number Bob, and I'm really into wildflowers- and no I'm not going to make a joke about it being a coincidence or a simple twist of fate because I don't think it is. That is a parallel track straight to hell if I've ever seen one.

  3. Parole e musica in magica fusione ad evocare una vicenda oscura e misteriosa, che va colta in senso simbolico.

  4. Having a random.. let's smoke a J. after 7 cans….Going on 43yrs..😂. Gotta go to the building site tomoz…… carpenter……In my green state.. This song is gosble to my respect of brilliant poet's.✌️🇦🇺🐬😸🎸👂👂👂

  5. I'm beginning to think that Bob Dylan continued to put out great songs since his 1966 motorcycle accident 🙂

  6. Had a nightmare last night, started off when i heard a Bob Dylan song i didn't like, that's when i realized this ain't real

  7. preacher was a talking,   there's a sermon he gave,   he said every mans conscience,  is vile and depraved,  you cannot depend on it to be your guild,  when its YOU who must keep IT satisfied. . . . and the Nobel prize for literature goes to . . . .

  9. Crickets are chirpin' the water is high
There's a soft cotton dress on the line hangin' dry
    Window wide open African trees
Bent over backwards from a hurricane breeze
Not a word of goodbye not even a note
She gone with the man in the long black coat
    Somebody seen him hangin' around
At the old dance hall on the outskirts of town
He looked into her eyes when she stopped him to ask
If he wanted to dance he had a face like a mask
Somebody said from the bible he'd quote
There was dust on the man in the long black coat
Preacher was talking there's a sermon he gave
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied
It ain't easy to swallow it sticks in the throat
She gave her heart to the man in the long black coat
There are no mistakes in life some people say
It is true sometimes you can see it that way
But people don't live or die people just float
She went with the man in the long black coat
There's smoke on the water it's been there since June
Tree trunks uprooted beneath the high crescent moon
Feel the pulse and vibration and the rumbling force
Somebody is out there beating on a dead horse
She never said nothing there was nothing she wrote
She gone with the man in the long black coat

  11. Bobs song writing is like a full length motion picture flashing in condensed 4 minute form – indelibly on the back of your brain.

  12. I've been looking for this shit for probably a year and a half, had no idea it was Dylan, anyone else from that sex trafficking ad?

  13. Never a great Bob Dylan fan but this song just blows me away Amazing lyrics and as somebody commented earlier its a 2 hour movie compressed into a 4 minute song Genius

  14. never listened the version of a magician of prog rock? try to listen to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLtzhRh9xc4

  15. Thanks for sharing live from Beacon Theatre Just what I wanted.
And I really love ❤️ The man in a long black coat. Thank you 🙏

  16. Amazing….first time I have heard this song by Bob. What album is it on? I want to hear it over and over! Thanks for sharing. Oh, just noticed the title of the album. Oh, Mercy:)

  17. Dylan had always been known for his lyrics, (unfortunately and unfairly. I mean he could sing like the best of them with that voice that came from you and me as Don Maclean would sing. And his musicianship has grown exponentially). But, you can almost see this tall, hidden man with dust flying from his coat. I have always considered the man in this song to be a more mature, wiser and older Jack of Hearts from Lily, Rosemary…….

  18. Magnificent song. It has what I'd call mythic resonance, i.e., a trippy, Jungian, cosmic-cinematic feel. (Other obvious examples : Hendrix's version of "All Along the Watchtower" and The Doors' "Riders on the Storm.") Still, this remains a mysterious tune that pays homage to unfathomable mysteriousness of life. Who is the seductive, inscrutable Man in the Long Black Coat? Sounds a bit like Death to me – not necessarily physical death but the slothful lure of spiritual death and torpor as a means to escape the too-muchness of reality. For me, the key lines of the song are "People don't live or die / People just float," i.e., they sleepwalk through their lives because they live without self-understanding and a sense of purpose – or the urgent sense that "the hour's getting late." In short, this is one of Dylan's most profound songs, an existentialist manifesto worthy of Camus (or Gurdjieff, for that matter).

  19. This is a new discovery for me. Have never been a big Bob Dylan fan. However a commenter mentioned below that Daniel Lanois had a part in the album. At that point I knew this has to be a good album. How do I know that. Because Daniel Lanois producted Bob’ s Grammy winning album Time Out of Mind. Which I thoroughly love. Also Mr Lanois collaborated on Emmylou Harris’s album Wrecking Ball which I thoroughly love also. Therefore my reasoning would be this album that proceeded the other two albums would be also good. I am certainly going to check it out. Also for the record I think Mr Lanois collaborated on a U2 album that I have as yet to check out also. Mr Lanois also produced a Neil Young album which I thought could only be great. And as it turns out I thought it was not so great. Perhaps some people gel together and some do not. I would love that Mr Lanois would get together with Mr Van Morrison. Hopefully they would gel like Daniel and Bob did twice. Thank you for posting the song and also the comment about Daniel Lanois and his producing of it.
