Angela Brown’s Top 10 Podcasts for 2019 (for House Cleaning)

Angela Brown’s Top 10 Podcasts for 2019 (for House Cleaning)

What do you listen to when you’re cleaning? That’s a great question, and we’re going to
talk about that today. Hi, there. I’m Angela Brown, and this is Ask A House
Cleaner. This is a show where you get to ask a house
cleaning question, and I get to help you find an answer. Now, I’m asked the question all the time,
“What do you listen to while you’re cleaning?” For me, I like to work smart, not hard, so
that is the time that I listen to podcasts, so that I can learn while I earn. So I’m earning money from the cleaning, and I’m learning while I’m listening and I’m cleaning. Okay. As a business owner, you can never learn too much. There’s always stuff to learn about employees,
and management, and leadership, and business, and customer service, and marketing, and a
whole variety of things that you can learn while you earn. So today, I’m going to share
with you my top 10 podcasts as we move into 2019. So that you can just learn a little
bit about some of the things that will help you grow your business. All right. They’re not all house cleaning related. Some of them are sister businesses, like Window
Cleaning and other service industries, but we all share some of the same problems. “What happens when a customer cancels?”, “How
do you grow your business?”, “How do you expand on a shoestring budget?”, “How do you market?”,
and all these things. All right. In the top 10, I’m going to include, and this
is not just for self-promotional purposes, but one of my favorite shows is this show
that you’re listening to right now, Ask A House Cleaner. If you search any podcast app, you will find
that we are in fact in the top 10, and I hope that we’ve earned the right to be in the top
10 for this upcoming year. Now, we’ve answered over 500 of your questions,
and that’s one of the reasons this is one of my favorite shows, because I get to spend
time with you, and then when you hear the show and you tune back in, and you visit me
in all the different social medias, we get to have a dialogue, we get to have more questions,
we get to interact with each other, and so this show has put me in touch with you. Now, for those of you that are not familiar
with this show, it’s five days a week. It’s tips and strategies, and the shows are
short. They’re 8 to 10 minutes long. You get to ask a question, I get to help you
find an answer on house cleaning, and so we’ve answered, like I said, over 500 questions,
and moving into the New Year, we’ve got a whole lineup of some really fun stuff that
we have planned for you. Now, if you did not know who I am, I have
been a house cleaner, professional house cleaner for 25 years, and I’ve helped lots of people
start their own house cleaning businesses. I even wrote a book called ‘How to Start Your
Own House Cleaning Business’ that you can get on Amazon. Now, here’s the cool thing about what I’m
about to tell you. The different podcasts that I’m going to share
with you today, most of the show hosts that have these podcasts are consultants. And they have their own businesses where they teach you this kind of information, and most of
them are in the thousands of dollars range. Before you buy their consulting practice and
you buy their stuff and their books and all that stuff, this is kind of a try before you
buy approach. They give you free information in the podcast,
and then you listen to them, and you go, “Yeah, I like this guy’s learning style. Yes, I like this information. I would like to buy his books.” “I would like to pay for his training. I would like to have him as my personal consultant
or mentor.” And so this gives you kind of a backdoor approach to this style of teacher
that they are. Now, the people that have these podcasts are
very giving, generous people, and I’m huge fans of them, and this is why we have this
top 10 list. All right. In no particular order moving forward, one
that I would like to share with you today is Ask A Clean Person, with show host Jolie Kerr. Now, Jolie is a New York Times bestselling
author, and she wrote a book called ‘My Boyfriend Barfed in My Handbag and Other Things You
Can’t Ask Martha’. If the title alone doesn’t tell you something
about Jolie’s personality, I’ll share with you this. She’s your irreverent, rebellious best friend. Imagine you standing there at the kitchen
counter, and you’re washing dishes, and you got your friend in the kitchen with you, and you’re just chit-chatting, hanging out, yucking it up. That’s Jolie, okay? Her personality is completely different from
mine. She’s very zany, she’s fun-loving, and if
you’re not familiar with her show, I think you will really love it. It’s a weekly show, and it’s about 45 minutes
in length. Sometimes she chats, sometimes it’s a conversation
with someone else, sometimes it’s an interview, but she brings all different kinds of cleaning
tips, and you’ll have a lot of ‘Ah-huh’ moments like, “Ah, that’s how that works”, because
she explains some fun stuff that maybe you just didn’t know, so Ask A Clean Person with
Jolie Kerr. All right. Also, in my top 10 podcasts is ClutterBug
with Cassandra Aarssen. Now, Cass is an amazing person, in charge
of the ClutterBug movement. She suffered with disorganization and clutter
for years. Then, she figured out an organizational style
that was so incredibly unique, that she put it together and she put it in a package, and
she’s been marketing it all over the globe. What’s interesting now, she’s helped over
a half a million families with this program, and she discovered that there are four types
of organizing styles. Now, organizing is kind of a sister to house
cleaning. We got to have the professional organizers
come in and help our families get all their stuff in place before we can come in and clean,
so we love professional organizers, and her job kind of comes before our job, but it is
so helpful to understand the different styles of organizing. Now, she has a test on her website, Clutterbug.me,
and I will leave links in the show notes so that you guys can take the test yourselves,
and find out what type of a ClutterBug are you. Once you understand what type of a ClutterBug
you are, then she has a system to help you organize and declutter your life. It’s amazing. Now, she is a social media rockstar, and she
has a YouTube channel. She’s got the podcast. She has three books that she’s written that
are available on Amazon. I know one of them is coming out January of
2019. I mean, this woman is killing it in the organization
and decluttering industry, so check it out. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s ClutterBug,
and like I said, this is not just a podcast. This is a movement. All right. Next up on my list is WCR Nation, and that
stands for Window Cleaner Nation, and this is hosted by Jersey. It’s about a 30-minute long session. It’s kind of a chat. Sometimes it’s an interview. Sometimes it’s just him talking, giving you
great, helpful bits of information and tips on how to grow your window cleaning business. Like I said, there are facets of this that
apply to house cleaners as well, but there are things like, “How do you clean windows
in bad weather?” Oh, great question. “How do you clean windows that have Christmas
lights up on them?” Again, as house cleaners, we have to work
around holiday decorations. “What happens when your business is growing
too fast, and you have to expand and hire somebody in a state of emergency?” Ah, we’ve all been there, right? It’s an excellent podcast that gives you all
kinds of insider information, like, “What happens when you hire somebody, and they don’t
fit in with your company culture?” If you’re not familiar with WCR Nation, it’s
a power-packed half hour of great information, and it is once a week, and it is targeted
to the service industry, but specifically to the window cleaning industry, so check
it out, WCR Nation. All right. Up next is Service Industry Marketing, which
is a podcast created by Matt Smith, and his business partner, Mitch Juhl. Now, I got to tell you a little bit about
Matt Smith. He owns this enormous, really well-defined
cleaning business in Michigan, but Matt’s specialty is in direct marketing and advertising,
which is something that all small business owners need. When it comes to Facebook ads, and AdWords,
and ad copy, and keywords, he is a genius, and he and his partner Mitch … Mitch is
from the real estate industry, they specialize in those four color postcards that we sent
to people’s homes that have all the different bullet points on them, and they have all the
right keywords and the AdWords and all that stuff. When it comes to knowing your niche, there
is nobody that’s better qualified than Service Industry Podcast to help you uncover what
it is you do in your business. Now, the podcast is 20 minutes. It is a weekly show, and it covers tips and
strategies that are all things you need to know about like your email list, and your
marketing funnels, and what happens when you forget to follow up with customers, and best
ways to capture customers during the holidays, and different things like that. It’s a whole bunch of stuff that you need
to know in order to grow your service business, so Service Industry Podcast with Matt Smith. If you haven’t checked it out, you are totally
missing out, so check it out because moving forward into 2019, I know it’s going to absolutely
knock your socks off when it comes to your marketing. All right. Also, in my top 10 podcasts is Grow My Cleaning
Company with Mike Campion. Now, Mike is just this dynamic guy who spent
the last 20 years building multi-million dollar businesses. And now, he spends all of his time consulting business owners for cleaning companies. His podcast is twice a week. It’s a podcast that’s available on all the
different podcast apps, and it’s also a show that he does on YouTube, and he does 20-minute
consulting sessions with owners of cleaning companies. He interviews people, he gives them great
feedback, he gives them actionable tips that they can use immediately, and listening to
one of his podcasts is just like sitting in a hot seat with Mike, and you go, “Oh yeah,
yeah, yeah. I have that same problem in my business”,
so Growmycleaningcompany.com. He’s the author of a book called ‘I’m A Freaking
GENIUS: Why Is This Business So Hard?’, and he answers that question in all of his podcasts,
so check it out, Grow My Cleaning Company. All righty. Next up on my list is The Art of Decluttering
with Amy Revell and Kirsty Farrugia. Now, what’s interesting about this podcast
is these two women come together as dynamic co-hosts. It’s a weekly conversation. It’s usually just the two of them, either
answering questions from the mailbag, from their client base, or questions that have
come in from the show. It’s about 30 minutes long, and both of these
women are as different as can be with fantastical information combined. Now, as a team, they teach an online training
course that is in the thousands of dollars, worth every penny, but they each have their
own individual professional organizing companies. Now, Amy’s company is called Simply Organised,
and she’s in Melbourne. Kirsty’s company is called ‘Feels Like Home
Professional Organisers, and she’s in Sydney. Now, both of them have written books. Kirsty’s book is a co-authored a book, and
it is called ‘The Beauty In My Mess’. It comes from her background. She did not stumble into organization naturally. This was kind of a challenge for her, and
as she learned to decode the process of how she organizes, she figured out a way to streamline
it to help other people that suffer from the same thing. Now, Amy on the other hand is the author of
a book called ‘Simply Organised’, and she always was great at organizing. This came second nature to her. Now, she’s a mom of two kids, as well as Kirsty
is, but Amy has this fun, wicked sense of humor about her, but she also has a very compassionate
side, so when she comes to your business, she sees the chaos, and in it, she finds peace. Together, these two women combined offer an
enormous array of really helpful and fun and entertaining information that can help you
declutter your life, so ‘The Art Of Decluttering’ with Amy Revell and Kirsty Farrugia. Another podcast on my top 10 podcast list
is Service Business Mastery with Tersh Blissett. Now, this is a service industry podcast. Again, it’s not targeted to the house cleaning
industry, but it’s great for carpet cleaners, and landscapers, and window washers, and painters,
and gutter cleaners, and pressure washers, and all the people that service the home. Now, Tersh in his own right is an entrepreneur
of multi-million dollar service-based businesses. Right now, he’s the COO of IceBound, which
is a vac and refrigeration company, and he’s a Technical Consultant at Tri-Star Heating
Air and Plumbing. This guy knows service businesses, and he
knows again what our problems are, and so to give us advice and to teach us, and to
guide us through the steps of mistakes that all of us are making in our business is awesome. He covers things like, “What are the simplest
ways to find qualified employees?” That is something every small business suffers
from. “How much do you pay your employees?”, “What
are six things you need to know if you plan to sell your service business?”, and he helps
you look at those before you get there because you don’t want to wake up one day and go,
“I want to sell my business.” Then, you have no idea what the steps are,
so he sets it up for you so that later on down the road, when you’re ready to do that,
you already know what you’re looking for. Then, there are 10 things that you should
know before you start your service business. He covers a whole bunch of business-based
things that is literally holding your hand, guiding you through the steps so you don’t
make the same mistakes that other entrepreneurs have made that make them fail in business
in the first two to five years. Don’t be a statistic. Just tune into Service Business Mastery, and
it’s one of the reasons it’s on my top 10 podcast list for 2019. Did I tell you about The Profit Roadmap with
Cody Owen and Bear Duplisea as the hosts? Okay. Profit Roadmap is back-ended by the Service
Autopilot software, and if you’re a small business owner and you’re in the service industry,
you’re probably already familiar with Service Autopilot, which is a service software management
suite that targets a variety of different service businesses, so it helps you run your
business so you don’t have to have a whole bunch of administrative staff doing all the
behind the scenes tasks. It’s an amazing piece of software, but one
of the reasons they created this podcast was so that they could answer all of your questions. Now, Cody Owen is a copywriter, and he spent
a year in the service department at Auto Service Pilot, and so he knows what the problems and
the complaints and the issues are that we’re dealing with as small business owners. Now, Bear on the other hand works in the sales
department, and his customers are us, the small business owner that has the business,
and so he knows what keeps us awake at night and what all of our issues are and our problems
and our challenges, and together, they are able to answer questions in a very entertaining
format that’s a weekly style podcast. It’s an interview style where they interview
lots of guests. Sometimes they interview each other, and sometimes
there’s just fun banter going on where they’re answering questions, and maybe customer questions
that have come in. It’s about 20 to 25 minutes long, and if you
have not checked it out, you will learn so much from this podcast, where you sit there
and you go, “Oh, wait a second. I’m having that same problem in my business”,
and that’s how you solve it, and then you take those actionable steps, and you apply
them in your own business, so check it out. It’s called ‘The Profit Roadmap’ with Cody
Owen and Bear Duplisea. Also on my list, and I would be remiss if
I didn’t mention this, is the Rich Cleaner Podcast with Timothy Paulson and Joe Polish. Now, Joe Polish went from being dead broke
as a carpet cleaner, to being one of the best connected men on the planet in the business
arena. Now, he runs an enormous mastermind group
called the ‘Genius Network’. Just to get into the mastermind group, it’s
like $25,000 per year, but the level of people that he speaks with is the cream of the crop. These are people that have built million-dollar
businesses, and they’re growing and expanding levels that most of us will never see. Now, the reason I love this podcast is because
of the high energy and the quality of guests that they bring on the show. This is a biweekly show. It’s about 30 minutes per interview, and Timothy
Paulson runs a lot of the interviews. Now, Timothy in his own right is an amazing
business person. He’s the co-creator of the Piranha Marketing
Program. That was Nightingale-Conant’s bestselling
program on The Seven Success Secrets to Dominate Any Market You Enter. Now, before the Piranha Marketing, Timothy
Paulson served as the Vice President for Hair Club for Men, and he helped the company go
from eight offices to 69 offices while he was with them, so this guy knows a lot about
business expansion. Now, as small business owners, a lot of us
look at this, and we’re like, “Oh, wouldn’t it be awesome to be in their shoes?”, but
the interesting thing is you will never get in their shoes, unless you listen and absorb
the kinds of lessons that the people they interview went through to get where they are,
so Rich Cleaner Podcast. It’s something if you’re not listening to,
you got to add it to your queue. It’s learning on steroids, and this is for
every entrepreneur. All righty. That is my top 10 list for today. I’m super excited to share it with you just
because I’ve learned so much from all of these experts, and I know that you can as well. Anyway, thanks for tuning in. If you found this helpful, please pass it
on to a friend, and until we meet again. Leave the world a cleaner place than when
you found it.
